Staying Connected While Being at Home

Having to stay home from school and spending most of our time indoors and away from friends, teachers, coaches, and some family members, it’s pretty easy to feel disconnected. Here are some ways to stay connected and social while being home & practicing social distancing:

1.     Connect with friends and loved ones via text, phone call, or email
2.     Celebrate events through virtual hangouts – for example, if it is someone’s birthday, schedule a time to get together through platforms like Zoom or Skype to celebrate together
3.     Schedule a time to work out with friends virtually – some of us stay motivated for exercise when we have a workout buddy, so you can both do the same workout while video conferencing
4.     When you’re outside getting fresh air or exercising, wave and say hi to your neighbors that you see (while still maintaining your 6 feet of social distance)
5.     Make fun future plans with your friends – it is a great feeling to have something to look forward to!
6.     Take time to reach out to people you may have lost touch with – if you have a friend you haven’t talked to recently, take this extra time to reach out to them by phone call, email, or text
7.     Host a virtual game night – schedule a time to video conference with your friends and play a trivia game. You can even plan to all have the same snack during the game!
8.     Make a virtual lunch date with a friend
9.     Have a virtual dance party with a friend
10.  Spend quality time with the people you live with WITHOUT technology (do crafts, play board games, go for a walk, make your favorite recipe together, etc.)

These are just a few ideas, if you have other ways of connecting that you’ve thought of, please comment below and share with the community! Let’s all do our best to stay connected and support one another.
